Abstract
To avoid confusion between the Holy Spirit and prophecy by too flexible definition, offered by St. Luke's pneumatology and exegesis of Acts. In Luke cites many references to the Spirit which always carry with emphasis on its action. The passage from Acts 19: 6 is the only place where the link is clearly established between the coming of the Spirit, laying on hands and the gift of prophecy. The second chapter of Acts is an update of the text of Joel, while exceeding it by universality. Luke is trying to show that all flesh will receive the Spirit, but that does not mean that everyone will be a prophet. Prophecy is also necessary for the church's missionary task. The deep connection between prophecy and apostolate is clearly highlighted in the text of Galatians 1: 15-16 where St. Paul formulates its call to the apostolate by taking phrases that recall the prophetic vocation of Jeremiah.
