Abstract

The exotic double feature ‘Acoustic Emission and Exo‐Electron Emission’ was presented at the afternoon meeting on 22 January in Strathclyde University. Starring respectively Dr A. A. Pollock, Endevco (UK) Ltd., and Dr D. F. McNamee, Glasgow University, these new techniques fascinated the small but keen and appreciative audience of 30. Each speaker supplemented an excellent talk by demonstration on impressive arrays of equipment and instruments. It was clear that, although strain gauge makers can still sleep soundly in their beds, both of these emission methods show considerable potential.
