Abstract

PurposeTo share information and insights from the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting. Several contributors reported on different aspects of this meeting. Design methodology/approach –A report of the conference.FindingsSummary of discussion forums, work of ALA's Divisions, and conference lore.Practical ImplicationsA working meeting to plan for the annual conference in June 2007. This meeting attracts the current leadership of the different divisions in ALA who are holding discussion groups and committee meetings as there are no official programs at Midwinter.Originality/valueConference reports on many current trends in scholarly communication issues to information professionals in academia, access, and intellectual property issues related to a range of library environments and the state of the art in technology.

Reports from the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting: Seattle, Washington, January 18-22, 2007. The annual winter meeting aims to provide attendees, continuing professional education, vendor presentations, invited papers, and social events. More than 12,000 registrants attended nearly 800 events and visited more than 500 library vendors whose representation included technology, information materials and services, and an assortment of local fanfare and vendors promoting goods and services. Some preconferences promoted the synergy between adolescence and technology use. How libraries are engaging technology to meet the changing needs of most demographic units, including teenagers, families and scholars was the focus of several sessions. This was the 18th year that integrated library system (ILS) Vendor Panel took place. The major concerns is being responsive to endusers and making it more effective and efficient for them to search and retrieve relevant output
