Abstract

This report has been commissioned by The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to analyze the development of the digital music market in Poland. In particular, the study analyzes how the collective copyright management reform proposed by the European Commission will affect the digital music market in Poland. The study applies economic reasoning to the functioning of collecting societies and the process of collective copyright management reform in the European Union. The empirical part of the study is based on analysis of in-depth interviews conducted with various stakeholders affected by the process of collective management reform in Europe: representatives of collecting societies, record labels, music aggregators and digital music stores. This version of the report is translation of the original which was published in Polish in 2013.
