Abstract
On Tuesday, May 13, 1997, there was a celebration for the centennial of the Society of Naval Architects of Japan (SNAJ) in the Heian Room (Room of Peace) of the Hotel Okura in Tokyo. The ceremony was held between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. and the party took place between 6:00 and 8:30 p.m. About 450 people participated in the ceremony, including distinguished guests, invited guests, general participants and the Executive Committee members, while some 460 people attended the party. The messages of congratulations and speeches given by the Crown Prince and other guests are presented below, together with the programs of the ceremony and the party. The ceremony was preceded by a luncheon party hosted by Dr. Ohba, President of this Society, in the Seiryu Room (Room of the Limpid Stream). Those attending were representatives of various academic societies and organizations of naval architecture at home and abroad, and included Dr. Parker, President of the RINA (Royal Institution of Naval Architects); Mr. D.A. O'Neil, President of the SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers) and Mrs. D.A. O'Neil; Prof. J.W. Lee, President of the Society of Naval Architects of Korea; Mr. D.R. Cusdin, President of IMarE (Institute of Marine Engineers) and Mrs. D.R. Cusdin; Mr. Ir. Th. M. Oostinjen, President of MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands); Mr. T.S. Lim, Deputy President of SNAMES (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Singapore); Prof. I. Tanaka, Past President of the Kansai Society of Naval Architects, Japan; and Prof. K.
