Abstract

This report documents the data records and findings of qualification of the Du Pont Company's Reverberant Acoustical Test Facility for broadband and pure‐tone measurements of sound power in accordance with current specifications and test procedures of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The report also describes the use of the test facility for measurement of acoustic absorption coefficient and transmission loss in accordance with the current specifications. A brief history of the development of acoustical testing in the Du Pont Company and the evolving need for the subject facility is presented. Details of construction, special design considerations, and operating parameters are also discussed. Theoretical considerations and formulae used in the development of unique test methods and procedures as applied are presented as a tutorial basis for understanding the testing philosophy used in these qualification procedures.
