Abstract

Advice has been received by the Secretary of the Section of Seismology regarding action taken to realize the resolution of the American Geophysical Union at its eleventh annual meeting to establish a seismological station at Huancayo. Upon the recommendation of Dr. A. L. Day, Chairman of the Advisory Committee in Seismology of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, of Captain R. S. Patton, Director, United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, and of J. A. Fleming, Acting Director of the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, an appropriation was made available by the Institution as a supplementary allotment in support of the seismological research for the purpose of establishment and maintenance of a seismological station at the Huancayo Magnetic Observatory in Peru, this apparatus to be installed and operated by the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism as an agent for and in cooperation with the Advisory Committee in Seismology of the Carnegie Institution of Washington. The plans for the necessary building and equipment are already under way.
