Abstract

AbstractFour polystyrene samples were investigated in numerous laboratories by means of viscosimetry, osmometry, light scattering, and ultracentrifuge. The various results are compared and critically discussed. Possible explanations and suggestions for improvement are offered in those cases where considerable discrepancies occur. The results of viscosimetry and osmometry in general do not give satisfactory agreement whereas the light‐scattering data, particularly in the high‐molecular‐weight range, and the few available ultracentrifugal results agree quite satisfactorily.
