Abstract

This book is a preliminary revision of Metabolic Methods published in 1951 by C. V. Mosby Company, St. Louis, Mo., and written by the present authors and Miss Evelyn Marek. It attempts to bring up to date the procedures used in conducting metabolic and nutritional surveys. The information and background gained during the past 10 years of field survey work by the Army Medical Research and Nutrition Laboratory and during surveys conducted by Interdepartmental Committee on Nutrition for National Defense (ICNND) has been included in this manual. Since the manual is designed for actual designing and conducting surveys, it goes into great detail on equipment needed; preparation of solutions required for analytical tests; forms required for collecting, compiling, and summarizing data; and procedures used for all types of analyses. Analytical methods are described with great detail as to conducting the test, but little information on the principle behind the procedure
