Abstract

Comments are presented on the work of Gulrsey on the "Group Structure of Elementary Particles." These concern the relationships of spin and iso-spin and the reasonableness of extrapolating iso-spin to the leptons. The possibility that the electron mass is purely electromagnetic with no contribution from other interactions was investigated. The continuous symmetry group of an assembly of Majorana fields is considered defined as follows: (1) it commutes with the proper Lorentz group; (1) it does not involve the coordinates; and (3) it is canonical, i.e,, it leaves the canonical conmutation relations invariant. From the one to one correspondence between the "mass conserving" groups belonging to two arbitrary operators Xt and X/sub 2/, it is seen that this is in complete agreement with Gursey's results.
