Abstract

We would like to thank the discusser for her interest in our paper and appreciate her thoughts and views on our paper. In our paper we tried to present the responses of a residual soil slope (characterized through changes in infiltration, runoff, soil water content, and pore-water pressures) to various rainfall conditions and attempted to quantify the flux boundary conditions required for seepage analyses associated with rainfall-induced slope failures. The discusser compared results of our field studies on rainfall-induced slope failure to that of her study on riverbank instability. We find it particularly encouraging and reassuring to note that many of the findings in the discusser’s study support and validate findings from our study. We also appreciate that the discusser finds our contribution significant and useful. Such interests are encouraging and inspiring to the research community working in this area of research. We believe that more studies are needed in the search for better ways of addressing rainfall-induced slope failures.
