Abstract

I feel that Paul Sweezy misinterpreted my position in his reply to my communication on Chile (Monthly Review, March 1972). Let me enumerate the points of confusion. "Consolidation," as I have heard it and read it "in the context of present political debates in Chile," assumes many distinct meanings, depending on who is speaking or writing. I have seen it used both in the sense that Sweezy and Benavides use it and in the sense that I use it. As I stated, this is strictly a semantic question and peripheral to the issues of our discussion. This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.
