Abstract
In Reply:—I cordially appreciate Drs Schwartz and Beumer’s positive comments regarding our retrospective review and analysis of our (Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center [MSKCC]) irradiated head and neck patients in regard to criteria and clinical judgment of extractions and its most often misconception of postoperative complications and sequelae—osteoradionecrosis. We attempted to relate modern radiation techniques and their implications to making sound clinical judgments regarding extractions. The Dental Service at MSKCC has the advantage, or rather, privilege of dialogue rather than monologue with our medical colleagues in decision-making diagnoses and treatment plans concerning the oral cavity.
