Abstract

The former chairman of the Advisory Committee on Obstetrics and Gynecology to the Food and Drug Administration responds to Dr. Goldziehers analysis of his Committees report on oral contraceptives. Goldziehers criticisms are said to be based on his biases. The author comments on Goldziehers criticisms that the Committee avoids discussing comparative risks of oral contraceptives with other activities of the human female that there are discrepancies in the discussion of theoretical versus use-effectiveness that the Committee failed to point out the irrelevance of adverse reaction reports and that the Sartwell study contains inaccuracies. The author believes that the Committee successfully suppressed its personal prejudices in order to produce scholarly reports containing unbiased analyses of the available facts and will not accept Goldziehers implications that the Committee was biased.
