Abstract

This paper is a response to a critique of a study which examined driver behavior in an emergency situation in the Automated Highway System (AHS). The authors defend both their choice of methodology for studying driver behavior in AHS emergency situations and their rationale for pursuing the use of driver simulators for investigating driver responses. (See PATH Database Record no. 17098 for original study.)
