Abstract

Let me first state that I welcome this discussion. JGR—Planets must be a journal that represents the best interests of the planetary science community, as determined by its members. The journal should continue to evolve in format and composition to best serve those needs, and constructive discussion is an important part of the process. However, I believe that the needs of the planetary science community are best filled at present by a broad, interdisciplinary journal that can serve as the centerpiece or focal point for the entire spectrum of planetary science.
