Abstract
We thank Dan Loewenthal for his comments on our paper. It is very comforting to know that there are other scientists who recognize the importance of determining the source signature. We agree that it is possible to determine the source signature if the right measurements are made. In the case of a monopole source, Loewenthal points out that by measuring the pressure field at two depths the source signature may be extracted from the data. Using our own notation, in particular equations (2), (3), (4) and (S), in which the wavefield is decomposed into plane-wave components, this may be seen as follows.
