Abstract

In his criticism of my review, Professor Redekop expresses indignation at some alleged distortions resulting from ideological and emotional bias, distortions which happen to reflect unfavorably upon persons who share his own religious persuasion. The Latin American anthropologists who courageously contributed to this book should be excused, however, if their interpretations of events and situations do not always coincide with those of the European settlers whose desire for economic and social privileges impedes-and it should be emphasized, continues to impede-the cultural and physical survival of many native American groups.
