Abstract

Christensen et al. base their argument on a distinction between ‘open empirical’ and ‘fixed ideological’ studies. This is surely an unhelpful delineation. All text is produced through a position in discourse; all authors are committed in one way or another and empirical evidence never speaks for itself. It is disingenuous to simply claim an ‘open attitude’ and then use this as your trump card. It is better to move beyond, rather than reproduce, unhelpful distinctions between ideology and truth.
