Abstract

Failed urethroplasty denotes recurrence of a female urethral stricture that necessitates additional intervention (such as urethrotomy and/or dilatation). This is generally indicated by the recurrence of preoperative obstructive voiding symptoms associated with a urethral calibration of less than 16F. 1 Blaivas J.G. Santos J.A. Tsui J.F. et al. We believe it is reasonable to suggest that difficulty with placing a catheter of 12F-14F in the context of significant lower urinary tract symptoms is diagnostic for stricture recurrence. Re: Onol et al.: Ventral Inlay Labia Minora Graft Urethroplasty for the Management of Female Urethral Strictures (Urology 2014;83:460-464)UrologyVol. 84Issue 1PreviewWe congratulate the authors for the excellent results with ventral graft placement for female urethral stricture. The authors describe that the criteria for failure was need for instrumentation. We would like to know how the authors suspected clinically that the patient needs intervention? In our opinion, the best parameter by which you can suspect restricture is urethral calibration with 14F catheter.1 Female urethral stricture disease is still a poorly defined entity and the criteria for diagnosis are not well recognized.
