Abstract

This paper presents the single pulse charging characteristics of a homopolar inductor alternator (HIA) with rectified capacitive load, and analyzes the relationship between HIA's voltage, HIA's frequency, charging voltage, and charging time. The process of energy conversion in the whole system and the proposed reasonable excitation current control method are also discussed. Experiments are carried out based on theoretical analysis and simulation. Both simulation and experimental results prove the validity and feasibility of the theoretical analysis and the excitation current control. We also prove the feasibility of high‐power and repetition pulse charging supply based on rotating storage. © 2014 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
