Abstract

Pseudoaneurysms of the ascending aorta are rare but extremely lethal complications after cardiac surgery. The repair of ascending aorta pseudoaneurysms poses a great surgical challenge because the sternal re-entry is associated with a significant risk of rupture and it usually requires a prolonged period of deep hypothermic circulatory arrest.A report is presented of a successfully managed case of a large pseudoaneurysm of the ascending aorta complicated by impending rupture and severe haemoptysis, months after an aortic valve replacement. We report a successfully managed case of a large pseudoaneurysm of the ascending aorta complicated by impending rupture and severe hemoptysis months after an aortic valve replacement.
