Abstract

Excavated defects of the optic disc have been associated with retinal detachment in the macula and beyond. Included among these defects are congenital pits of the optic disc, optic nerve colobomas, and the morning glory syndrome. We report eight consecutive patients with congenital, excavated defects of the optic disc and associated retinal detachment managed with pars plana vitrectomy, laser photocoagulation, and intravitreal gas injection.
