Abstract

Objective To review our experience of heel soft tissue defect repair in children with the gluteal thigh pedicle flaps with nerve anastomosis.Methods Eight gluteal thigh pedicle flaps were used to repair soft tissue defect in the weight-bearing areas of the heel in children.The size of the flaps ranged from 4.5 cm × 15 cm to 5.5 cm ×1 6 cm.The donor sites of the flaps were closed primarilv.The posterior femoral cutaneous nerve of the flap was anastomosed to the sural nerve at the heel area.Results All flaps survived.The results were satisfactory.The average.follow-up was 2.5years.The flaps had good sensation.The two-point discrimination of the flaps ranged from 13 mm to 16 mm. There was no ulceration at the recipient sites.Conclusions The pediele flap with sensation provides the optimal reconstruction of the soft tissue defect in the weight-bearing areas of the heel in children.
