Abstract

There is an increasing of keeping rabbits as pets because of the easy creatinand docility of these animals, with a consequent increase in the number of cases that come to veterinary clinics, including animals with diaphyseal fractures. In the wildlife clinic at the Federal University of Uberlândia was admitted to a rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) that had complete communited diaphyseal fracture of the middle third of the tibia. Surgical treatment elected osteosynthesis using Steimaan pin, plaque neutralization and compression crews. Dues to the scarcity of information, the aim of this study was to describe the surgical technique used thus providing, higher subsidies to the surgical clinic of the animals. After surgical treatment of oesteosyntesis and postoperative follow-up, there was removal of the intramedullary pin on the 30th postoperative day. There was effective in treating the victim of rabbit bone fracture.
