Abstract

A new concept was developed to repair leaking solid oxide cell (SOC) stacks. Conventionally, stacks are joined with a glass-ceramic sealant before they are put into operation. Once the sealant starts leaking, they are considered unusable. The approach outlined here aims to prevent the scrapping of valuable aggregates. The method was tested for a composite sealing material based on a crystallizing glass matrix of the BaO-CaO-SiO2 system reinforced with yttrium-stabilized zirconia fibers.
