Reorientation of care in the NICU – An Australian perspective

Abstract

Australia, although probably more multicultural than the UK, is still essentially an Anglo-Western culture. As such, the principles that are outlined in the article by Laing and Freer would be widely used in most NICUs here. While I agree strongly with what Laing and Freer have written, I would like to develop two areas: firstly on the use of euphemisms, and secondly to emphasize the importance of individualizing the management of withdrawal according to parental wishes.
