Abstract
This paper investigates Renyi generalized entropy as an analysis tool on images from a sequence of a progressive image transmission. The Renyi generalized entropy provides an extra level of analysis that Shannon's entropy can not reveal on its own. This analysis is used on a progressive wavelet image transmission scheme to determine what characteristics are present in the Renyi entropy that can lead to an image quality measure specifically tuned for analysing progressive image transmission techniques.
