Abstract
Motivated by the second law a renormalization scheme is introduced within the framework of classical, unquantized non-linear hydrodynamics that enables one to directly calculate the essential results of the quantum theory of interacting phonons. Consequences for quantum mode coupling and the quantum fluctuation-dissipation theorem are discussed.
