Abstract

Abstract We investigate a model for deep inelastic electroproduction, where the photon does not couple to pointlike constituents, but to physical particles with form factors. Scaling behaviour for the structure functions is obtained by a compensation between form factor effects and increasing integrals over a propagator spectral function and over a function similar to that corresponding to the vertex diagram. A sufficient condition for scaling is the generalized scaling behaviour of a hadronic four point function such that it is more singular than in perturbation theory. In contrast to the standard parton model, the average transverse momenta of final state particles should increase without limit as − q 2 →∞.
