Abstract

Corrections to the πNN vertex in a nuclear medium (from mechanism other than the Lorentz-Lorenz effect) are estimated and found to be relatively small. At nuclear matter density the effective πN coupling constant (at a pion frequency ω = m π is reduced by less than 6% from its free space value.
