He received his Ph.D., in ergodic theory from the University of Massachusetts. As this article suggests, his more recent interests include combinatorics and probability, although the course he enjoys teaching most is abstract algebra. When not working, he may be found listening to choice favorites from his complete collection of the Bach cantatas, or out in subzero weather participating in the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count.
