Abstract

The book is intended as a concise, practical guide for pediatricians, urologists, general practitioners, and residents in training who may be called upon to care for children with renal disease. Similar to de Wardener's<i>The Kidney</i>, this book is prepared by a single author in an informative and easily readable manner. The clarity with which James has summarized many aspects of kidney disease is commendable. Neonatal renal problems, urinary infections, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, chronic nephritis, renal failure, renal complications of systemic disease, chronic dialysis and renal transplantation are the main subjects discussed. The introductory chapters cover briefly anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, and embryology. Throughout the book, reference is often made to observations and studies, primarily of adults. More specific information by the author and others dealing with the pediatric age group would increase the value of this monograph.
