Abstract

The purpose of this survey was to document current salary and employment benefits of renal dietitians in Maryland. The Maryland Council on Renal Nutrition (CRN) mailed surveys to 25 renal dietitians employed by 30 facilities. A response rate of 53% indicated that part-time and consultant dietitians were paid a higher average hourly wage compared with those holding full-time positions, but that they did not receive similar benefits, ie, medical insurance. When compared with previous salary surveys reported by the Renal Dietitians Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association, an annual average full-time employment salary increase of 37% from 1981 to 1990 was seen. Suggestions for replication of this survey by other CRN groups are discussed.
