Abstract

John XVIII's papal bull confîrming the privileges of the abbey of St. Florent on april 1004, may be considered as authentic, except two series of later interpolations. This papal precept does not protect in anything the abbey from destruction, but St. Florent of Saumur is recovering rapidly and getting important privileges from earls and lords ; the exempt area of St. Florent gets even a statute of general, spiritual as well as temporal immunity. False acts, made during the second half of the XIth century, facilitated the fîrst stages of this renewal.
