Abstract

Intrabed multiples, either caused by shallow reverberations or the presence of many thin layers, can have a detrimental effect on the signature of deeper reflections. We discuss a method for removing these types of multiples. It can be viewed as a deterministic counterpart of well‐known predictive deconvolution methods and is aimed at estimating the inverse transmission operator of a subsurface region, directly from its reflection response. The method is illustrated by applying it to both synthetic and real data and appears to be able to reduce the effect of transmission intrabed multiples.
