Abstract

ABSTRACT The effectiveness of commercially available scale dissolvers for removing mineral scales from reservoir cores was studied in the laboratory. Fluids and preserved cores from a major North Sea reservoir were used. Equipment and procedures were developed to reproducibly deposit scale in reservoir cores. Then, the effectiveness of aminopolycarboxylic acid for removing scale from the cores was investigated. Deposition and dissolution of mineral scales were monitored by measurement of oil/water mobility in the core, effluent scale cation concentrations and scanning electron microscope observation. Mineral scales studied included calcite, barite and mixed scales.
