Abstract

MAGNETIC force has been used for many years to remove metallic foreign bodies from the eye. The use of this agency to remove metallic foreign bodies from other body tissues is uncommon. It is the purpose of this paper to report the mobilization of large stainless steel suture needle from the soft tissues overlying the right buttock by use of permanent magnet applied for prolonged period. Case Report A 39-year-old white man sustained large laceration of the right buttock in an automobile accident in November. 1959. During surgical closure of the wound, the surgeon told the patient that a needle had broken in his buttock, but it would never bother him. The laceration healed well, but within several months he noticed that sitting in certain positions or twisting his hips, as in playing golf, produced an unpleasant sticking sensation in his right hip.
