Abstract

Azo dyes continue to be a source of pollution in industrial processes that utilise dyes to colour paper, plastic, food, pharmaceutical products as well as natural and artificial fibre. Effluents containing azo reactive dyes are very difficult to treat in environmental system, owing to the sulphonic group, which makes the dye water soluble and very polar and difficult to treat by conventional methods of wastewater treatment.
