Abstract

The Rice Husk and its derivatives CCRH (Carbon Chitosan Rice Husk) gel and ATRH (Acid treated Rice Husk) show effective adsorption of Cu2+ from the aqueous media. The equilibrium was attained in 480 min, 25 °C at pH 7. The RSM was applicable for the effect of variables like contact time and initial concentration with respect to removal efficiency. The system was best fitted by Pseudo 2nd order kinetic model and follows Langmuir Isotherm in case of CCRH with monolayer adsorption capacity of 1.395 mg g−1 for RRH, 4.127 mg g−1 for ATRH and 90.90 mg g−1 for CCRH whereas Freundlich Isotherm for RRH and ATRH. The system is exothermic and spontaneity decreases with increase in temperature in case of RRH and CCRH, whereas, in case of ATRH, the system is endothermic and spontaneous in nature. The CCRH proved to be effective adsorbent for the removal of Cu2+ as compared to RRH and ATRH.
