Abstract

This study proposed batch electrocoagulation with iron electrodes as a simple and economical method for treating aqueous solution containing 250 mg/l of brilliant green dye. Response surface methodology was performed to design experiments and to optimize the process. A total of 20 experiments were conducted to study the effect of three important process parameters: initial solution pH (5–11), current density (5–20 mA/cm2) and reaction time (10–40 min). Multiple response optimization reveals that a maximum dye removal efficiency of 96.1% with minimum electrical energy consumption of 3.857 kW h/kg dye removed was achieved at optimum conditions.
