Abstract

The toxicity of antibiotics in fresh water is an increasing concern of modern society for sustainable life. The elimination of hazardous materials like antibiotics from water is foremost task and for which promising technologies are required. Adsorption of contaminants from water is an efficient technique due its low cost, environment friendly nature and easy fabrication of adsorbent materials. Herein, we have discussed solvothermal synthesis method of MOFs for antibiotics pollution, health effects of antibiotics present in water and its removal from water. The recent developments for effectual decontamination of selective antibiotics are also summarized. Further, the adsorption mechanism for removal of antibiotics has been discussed to provide the base for the synthesis of targeted MOFs in future. In addition, cost analysis of pollutants removal using MOFs is also briefed. Finally, future perspectives are also discussed to lead the research directions.
