Abstract

A heterogeneous simulation model considering carbon fiber and resin phase about laser ablation of carbon fiber reinforced composite (CFRP) was established by ANSYS firstly. Then the ablation process of CFRP by short pulse laser was simulated and the mechanism of laser scanning direction on heat affected zone (HAZ) was studied. Lastly, the validity of the model was verified by experiments. The results show that the width of the heat affected zone increases with the angle between the laser scanning direction and the carbon fiber laying direction, while the fracture length of the carbon fiber increases firstly and then decreases. The split line is 45°, which also indicates the existence of the optimal scanning direction and has a certain guiding significance for the cutting of CFRP.
