Abstract

Atmospheric temperature can be sounded remotely by observing the emission from carbon dioxide in its 15 μ m band. The principles of design of suitable instrumentation for such observation are reviewed. An instrument employing a selective chopper enables emission from higher altitudes to be selected than is possible with conventional instruments.
