Abstract
Aspects of our current understanding of the dynamics of the atmosphere of Venus are reviewed and critically discussed. We consider how this information was obtained, noting the importance of remote sensing in the ultraviolet and in the near and thermal infrared portions of the spectrum. It is proposed that a great deal could be done to clarify the remaining uncertainties and outstanding mysteries with a relatively simple multispectral imaging device on a hypothetical low-cost Venus orbiter mission. The basic parameters of such a project are described and its timely implementation advocated.
