Abstract

Vegetation cover change by Remote Sensing Monitoring is an important part of urban ecological environment monitoring, the results can provide scientific basis for urban sustainable development. Using the Landsat TM images of Mianyang city on May 1, 1988, and on May 6, 2007, and after the geometric correction, calibration of radiation, atmospheric correction and normalization vegetation index calculation, we completed the above estimation of vegetation coverage in the two periods, and the results in this two periods. At the same time, in Mianyang, the vegetation coverage changes between 1988 and 2007 have been taken in the remote sensing monitoring and quantitative analysis. The results show that from 1988 to 2007, the vegetation coverage in Mianyang city as a whole is on the decline; In 1988, 40% ~ 60% of the high vegetation is the main body, it covers an area of 35.01 km2, the vegetation coverage is greater than 40% and the area is about 64.76 km2, accounts for 67.19% of total area of the built up area; In 2007, 20% ~ 40% lower vegetation is the main body, it covers an area of 46.72 km2, the vegetation coverage is less than 40% of the area of 46.72 km2, accounts for 94.04% of the built up area total area.
