Abstract

A Russian geographer assesses past experience with (and potential applications of) the principles and methods of landscape morphometry in the remote sensing-based monitoring of geosystems. Considerable attention is devoted to methods of calculating indices measuring the shape, nonuniformity, relative location, proximity, connectivity, and fractal dimensions of strips and patches—two basic types of forms found on remote sensing imagery.
