Abstract
Remote monitoring systems differ (patient activated vs automatic). Automatic remote monitoring maintains constant surveillance, enabling same-day alerts of problems that may underlie cardiac symptoms. Remote monitoring prevents unnecessary hospital visits; these are reserved only for those patients who require this. This ability is useful to patients and increases clinic efficiencies. Many different sensors are under development (eg, for ischemia and heart failure).
