Abstract

Brillouin scattering is a nonlinear effect in optical fibers which can be used for temperature or strain sensing. For read-out and analysis of the scattered signal, spectrum-analyzers with a very high resolution or complex detection systems are currently needed. In this work, a new detection modality for radial acoustic modes in optical fibers based on speckle-sensing is presented.
