Abstract

Remote cerebellar hemorrhage is a rare complication of spinal surgery; the exact pathophysiological mechanism causing it remains controversial. We report 2 cases of remote cerebellar hemorrhage after spinal surgery complicated with dural tears. The cerebellar hemorrhages were diagnosed while the patients were being evaluated for severe headaches in the early postoperative period. Both patients were treated conservatively. As the pathophysiological mechanism of this complication is poorly understood, cases with dural tears during surgery should be followed with caution, and cerebellar hemorrhage should be suspected in patients with a severe postoperative headache.
